One wonders if these personalities (the creatives) are simply displaced in mainstream systems that may incite conditions of mental illness. Thank God they have avenues of expression!
The view in this article is witnessing a fundamentalists view of traditional values. There is concern in that perspective for the rights of the 'vulnerable groups' whose views are not of the mainstream. It may be argued that traditional values can embrace marginalized peoples such as LGBT.
We cannot give up the endeavor for whole identity. This also assures that rights of the person are in place. Traditional values when viewed figuratively are an essential part of everyday living for most people who were raised with ethics and good standards. Basic precepts of life or traditional values can exist within modern living arrangements and identities.
It wouldn't be a surprise to know that some mental illness is preventable or minimized if there is understanding for those subjected to the causes of this condition. Prayers for the many who are afflicted today.
The Governor's decision to prohibit reparative therapy was very wise. This shouldn't preclude developing youth to make informed choices about their lives. Informed choices include authentic expression, free will and a good foundation. The endeavor to develop to a 'whole identity' is essential - whether the choice is one of renunciation, integration or separation with the past. 'Whole identity' incorporates every aspect of our lives to wellbeing (and for all) and authenticity.
