Thank you Wilson Quarterly for the piece on 'Beyond the Brain' (summer issue 2012) that recognizes schizophrenia and psychiatric illnesses as more than a brain disorder. There is more hope for those who are afflicted today. It isn't surprising that India has been a leader in the treatment of this condition.
LA Times Image often introduces 'spiritual news' from culture. This is titled 'Hairbrained.'

Historically it is understood that Prophet Muhammad may have arranged 'special relationships' with other religions that recognized their rights to practice their religion and protect their property. What the Egyptian constitution may be saying is upheld by this early gesture in the history of Islam.
Protecting precious family circles builds our system and society in creative potential and in wealth. Staying true to principles of religion is essential for these circles. Stay close to a true creed that cares and loves.
A historic speech from the U.S. Secretary of State. We must continue to believe that doing good is of vital importance to humanity and the wellbeing of global community. We may need to adjust how we care but the love and kindness need never be replaced by acts of disdain or disregard. This is our true religion, a religion of peace.
A quote from her speech...
"...America and our allies have come through a long decade of war, terrorism and recession. These continue to be difficult days for many of our citizens. But as I travel the world, I see evidence that our leadership is still respected and required. Yes, this is because of our military and our material might, but it is also because of our commitment to fairness, justice, freedom and democracy – not just to our own good, but to the greater good."
Met a friend at Starbucks Golden Cove today. Nice conversation about psychology, religion and how to serve our community today. America is complex but religion doesn't have to be. Boundaries don't need to be too defined if we see high enough together. Maybe this is only in a Christian context but there is always interfaith or universal value when Christ vision exists. Somehow there is Buddha vision, the Prophet's vision, and others that participate also.
In addition to the wealth of services that the psychological community offers for those who are troubled, another avenue of healing for the mentally afflicted is religious/spiritual studies and education. It is suggested that a combination of both be introduced if possible for balance. Typically, the psychological grounding need to be stabilized before serious spiritual practices such as meditation are endeavored.
