The second realization from that experience was the memory of a scene in a PBS documentary titled "God in America". Vivid to me with the horror I experienced when witnessing the scene was a Jewish elder breaking the back of a lobster in an act of defiance to a very strict kosher dietary practice. That scene was part of a historical account of how Judaism and Christianity evolved in this country that includes the sacrifices and adaptations that were made to live together in harmony.
As mentioned in a Facebook post last night, I continue to pray that these people lead us back to Genesis 1 where God's first prescription for our dietary practices was revealed. The early Genesis chapters and Leviticus (Torah) provide the evolutionary account of food and how to eat well. Such adaptations and adjustments as witnessed with the lobster (and my pastrami sandwich) have not changed since the Old Testament with God.
